Falab laboratory: an industrial hospital in China's manufacturing industry
Date:2018-09-29    Hits:1687

Liu Xuesen, the founder of Huabi Laboratory, did not realize that at first he wanted to be an "industrial hospital", but made progress in forensic identification and insurance claims.

"At the beginning of my business, I found that Chinese laboratories are basically divided into two categories, one is the laboratories of basic disciplines in schools, the other is the laboratories of specific products in enterprises," he said. "But such a system is missing, and what is missing is the laboratory of quality supervision and testing."

After experiencing early laboratory work experience, Liu Xuesen decided to create a completely third-party laboratory, and his original intention was to help manufacturers find problems in their products through laboratory testing capabilities, and then improve their technology and materials.

In 2006, he found the Science Park of Fudan University in Shanghai, and invested in the establishment of Hua Bi laboratory. At present, there are 9 laboratories and offices in all parts of the country. The laboratory covers an area of 10,000 square meters. It has more than 300 professional technicians such as forensic appraisers and authorized signatories, more than 5000 experts, and more than 1000 sets of professional appraisal instruments and equipment. The total value of the instruments and equipment is over 100 million yuan. The 21st Century Economic Report "Touch Intelligent Manufacturing - China Manufacturing Value Discovery Tour in 2018" entered the Huabi Laboratory Headquarters of Suzhou Huapu International Industrial Park. The high-quality environment and international operation services of Suzhou Huapu International Industrial Park finally attracted Huabi Laboratory to set up its headquarters here.

Industrial hospital

In Liu Xuesen's concept, Huabi Laboratory's orientation is to be an "industrial hospital" made in China.

"In this area, the most important point to cut in is failure analysis, starting from the point of failure of the product, to find out the reasons for its failure," he said. "For example, product improvement, quality control, compensation traceability, identification in the judicial process and so on, all of which need failure analysis."

At present, Huabi Laboratory has established 89 categories of industrial products with more than 3000 parameters, covering 70% of China's industrial categories, including electronics, automobiles, ships, aviation, electricity, environment and so on. Through the analysis of the mechanism of the logarithmic ten thousand item failure products, enterprises are helped to improve the product process.

"We have written the failure mechanism and characteristic points of all cases of detection and appraisal into technical specifications, and there are more than 1000 technical specifications at present." He said. "To this end, we have contacted various industry experts, established our own analytical database, combined with our laboratories and analytical personnel, and have now achieved the top ten influential testing institutions in China."

However, he also admitted to reporters that among all his failure analysis customers, foreign enterprises account for a very high proportion. If private enterprises become part of the supply chain of foreign enterprises, they will also find them to do product testing. "China's private enterprises also need to improve their awareness of quality pursuit." He said.

quality certification

Liu Xuesen said that if third-party laboratories want to further expand the scope of business and enterprise scale, they need to do quality certification. However, at present, the difficulties faced by such laboratories lie in the fact that the internal standards of the industry are not recognized.

For example, the current peer quality inspection is based on the national standard, which generally takes into account the feasibility of the vast majority of enterprises and is the industry's lowest standard. A higher class of quality requirements will not be listed in such standards.

"This kind of standard is mandatory, and it's the standard that companies have to meet if they want to produce in this line; but performance is not," he said. "Performance standards are generally formulated within the enterprise, or by the association of several enterprises. This standard is marked with higher performance and quality."

Recently, the state announced the rules for the determination of industry standards, namely "group standards". Enterprises like Huabi Laboratory have the opportunity to participate in the formulation of industry standards. And this opportunity will bring more opportunities for quality upgrading to more enterprises.

"After all, we know where the product is not good, but we know where the product is going to be good," Liu said. "Helping enterprises to make quality certification can not only guide enterprises to improve their production in what areas, but also help consumers choose the products they want."
